Urban Jungle
Artist Statement
Biology defines ecosystems as communities of interacting organisms and their physical environment. This definition perfectly fits into what humans have gone on to call cities. Instead of trees we have buildings, instead of vines we have wires, and instead of meerkats and warthogs thereʼs you and me. This urban jungle analogy is what drove the development of my work throughout the year.
Why?
Because paying attention to those things you are already familiar with gives you a second chance at experiencing them for the first time, with a sense of freshness. I wanted to experience these cities as if they were brand new, trying new things that I hadnʼt ever thought about in 16 years.
Trying to encapsulate the atmosphere of any city exclusively with images can be challenging, but itʼs a challenge I decided to take.
